APHA YLAH Update

As of 20 August, the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s National Bee Unit (NBU) has received further credible reports of YLH. To date there have been 145 sightings in 2026 resulting in the identification of 41 nests.

The nests confirmed this week are recorded in the following locations:
Dorset
• Littlebredy (secondary nest)
Greater Manchester
• Chadderton, Oldham (secondary nest)
Hampshire
• Romsey (secondary nest)
Kent
• Wye (secondary nest)
• Petham Hide (primary nest)
• Ramsgate (primary nest)
• Hollingbourne (secondary nest)
• Sittingbourne (secondary nest)

The following nests are awaiting destruction: Wye, Ramsgate, Hollingbourne and Sittingbourne in Kent; Littlebredy in Dorset; Romsey in Hampshire; and Chadderton in Greater Manchester.

The NBU are carrying out monitoring and track and trace in locations across Hampshire, Greater Manchester, Kent and Lincolnshire. Multiple sightings are being monitored by beekeepers and local Yellow-legged hornet teams.
